The Independence park located in the environment of the Aggrey Memorial Model College built in remembrance of the the Nigerian Educationist, Mazi Alvan Ikokwu (Blessed Memory).

In 1932, Ikoku laid out a Co-Educational Secondary School in West Africa: the Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, situated in Arochukwu and named after his tutor James E.K. Aggrey, a famous Ghanaian educationist. In 1946, after a few sacred changes permitting more Nigerians in the authoritative chambers, he was designated toward the Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly and relegated to the service of training.
